Yesterday, the Sacramento NAACP spoke at the Elk Grove Unified School Board Meeting about the racism many students, staff, and teachers experience within the district. On May 19, 2025 (Malcolm X's 100th birthday), the Sacramento NAACP participated in the Day at the Capitol with several branches of the @cahinaacp. We advocated for bills supporting education, reparations, and support for families affected by the wildfires.
The Sacramento City Council will vote on its proposed budget on June 10th. We were at the most recent City Council meeting to let them know that cutting funding for youth programs would be detrimental and instead of allowing the police department to keep vacant positions, the city should fund community based organizations for a proactive and wraparound approach to potential threats to safety. It was admitted in the City Council Meeting that it would be difficult with the budget cuts to fill vacant positions in the police department. The money shouldn't sit there for jobs that may not be filled and be reallocated to youth based programs.
Yesterday, the Sacramento NAACP was awarded with the Peace and Justice Award from the Center for Africa Peace and Conflict Resolution for our 109 years of service in the Sacramento Community.

Today, the Greater Sacramento NAACP participated in the NCNW's Sweet Potato 🥔 Festival at the Pannell Community Center. There was a lot of food, fun, and friendships. We had sweet potato pies and sweet potato ice cream 🍦. It was a good way for us to get out and support other Black Organizations in Sacramento. See you next year ✌🏾.
